Bernd Herbert believes that systemic design plays a key role in enabling organizations to adapt their purpose and strategies to support the possibility for flourishing for humanity and all other life for generations to come. In his role as an academic, he is a guest lecturer for “Systemic Design for Strategy and Future-Fit Organizations” at ISEG, Lisbon and International Marketing Strategy at ISCET, Porto. In his role as faculty member, he is course lead for “Business Model Discovery – A Business Design Journey” as well as “Systemic Design for Strategy and Future-Fit Organizations” at the School of the Possible and a former course lead for “Business Design for sustainability and innovation” at the Service Design College. As a practitioner, Bernd is a certified management consultant and project manager with 30 years’ experience across global consulting, industry and startup companies. Bernd works as independent business consultant applying method (systems thinking, systemic design, business design, design thinking) and practice to drive new value creation and business models for companies and ecosystems. He is the lead of Systems Innovation Hub, Lisbon and a core member of the Organization Hub and Catalyst2030 Spain & Portugal. He regularly speaks and teaches across these networks. His practice and research leverage systemic management innovations like the Flourishing Business Canvas and the project Epiphany Design with Mani I which published an influential article for the UK Design Council titled “Ways of designing: a reflection on strategic and systemic design”. Bernd is also a speaker, member and part of the program committee of the Systemic Design Association. Bernd holds a Master of Business Management from Julius-Maximilian University Würzburg as well as a Master of Economy and Linguistics (Spanish, Italian, French). Bernd was born in Germany, lived in Spain as boy and is now a settler near Porto, in Portugal. He loves to run the trails along the hills surrounding the Leça River basin. The total hydrographic route of the Leça River covers 4 municipalities and a population of around 500,000 people, with an extension of 48 kms. A unique case in the world, in which 4 territories come together, from the source to the mouth, in the rehabilitation and management of a common natural element.
