For our thirty first monthly flourishing business community speaker series: stories from the field, the community is delighted to welcome David Fischer from 3P Lab (People, Planet, Profit), based in Zurich, Switzerland
David Fischer holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and brings over 15 years of leadership experience in financial services across operations, IT outsourcing, project portfolio management, process management, and sales. After transitioning into the sustainability field while living in New York – and completing theWine Diploma (DipWSET) in parallel – he co-founded a boutique consulting firm 3P Lab operating out of Zurich. Today, he supports clients in developing future-fit business models with a strong focus on integrating circular economy approaches.
In his work with the Flourishing Business Canvas, he discovered that this tool becomes more powerful with every application – especially when reviewing earlier models to calibrate new projects and ensure nothing essential is missed. He has found that it consistently sparks rich, structured discussions around stakeholders, relationships, and governance, making clear what is well defined and where clarity is still lacking. David uses the Canvas as a reference framework – almost like a table of contents for building a business – to guide thinking and maintain a holistic perspective.
One of David’s favourite sayings is “a fool with a tool is still a fool”! This has guided his use of the Flourishing Business Canvas. David says “the Canvas is incredibly rich and comprehensive, and I genuinely love working with it, but clients don’t need tools – they need clarity, structure, and solutions. So integrating the FBC into our consulting approach is an ongoing craft: using its power without overwhelming, applying it where it adds value, and continuously refining how it supports real world business decisions… and yes, we’re still improving, step by step.”
In his talk David will first highlight his work using the Flourishing Business Canvas with Licama: Licama supports organisations in fostering sustainable wellbeing and resilience among their people. Grounded in the belief that genuine strength begins with rest, Licama encourages a more proactive approach to mental and emotional health. Through thoughtfully designed experiences and supportive formats, individuals are given space to disconnect, recover, and reconnect with themselves. The result is renewed energy, greater balance, and lasting wellbeing that benefits both people and the environments they are part of.
Since client sessions are often limited to just two to three hours, David’s approach typically involves pre-filling selected elements of the Canvas to jump start the conversation, rather than spending time explaining the tool upfront. David has found that this helps clients engage immediately and focus on meaningful insights. It is unusual for clients to pay for tools themselves, rather they are willing to pay for structure, process, and useful outcomes. This means a thoughtfully facilitated and incrementally applied Canvas has becomes a highly effective component of his overall service offering.
Secondarily, David will explore how he and his co-founder have used the Flourishing Business Canvas to recalibrate and further develop 3P Lab’s own business model.
In his presentation, David will discuss:
- How he uses the Flourishing Business Canvas in his consulting work with entrepreneurs, with his co-founder, and his plans to use it for strategy development work with leaders of existing organizations
- How he got comfortable using the Canvas with clients and developed his own approach to co-create value with them
- Common reactions when his clients first encounter the canvas – both the benefits and the challenges
- Practical hints and tips on developing the knowledge, skills and consulting processes that enable the Canvas to help him to confidently co-create value with his clients
- His hopes for 3P Lab’s future use of the canvas – how their consulting services develop over time
- What has the Flourishing Business Co-lab done well, and needs to do better, to support 3P Lab’s journey to this point, and he would like to see in the future
- What he has already gained from his participation in this community, and the benefits he hopes to realize from his future participation
- What he hopes to contribute back to this community
At the end of his talk, David will take questions from members of the community.
After the event, a video of the talk plus slides will be shared in the “Speaker Series” space of the Flourishing Business Community. Please join other flourishing business leaders and become a full member to access.
